Oakland, CA – In downtown Oakland, representatives from rape crisis centers in the Bay Region gathered at the Bay Area’s Women Against Rape (BAWAR)’s office housed at the Family Justice Center to discuss pressing issues.  Christine Dillman, from the Tri-Valley Haven facilitated today’s meeting.  Representatives from San Francisco Women Against Rape, Tri-Valley Haven, Highland Hospital, and BAWAR were in attendance.  Representatives updated each other about their respective agency’s work and discussed what they would like to see at the upcoming Regional Training.

The meeting took place a few days after a 15 year old girl was gang raped at Richmond High School and bystanders did not report the incident to authorities.  Representatives discussed the urgency to engage in a community response and be as supportive as possible to our colleagues working at Community Violence Solutions.
