Chad Sniffen speaking at the Ending Violence Against Women and Teen Dating Violence Forum

Almost 200 people attended the California Department of Public Health’s “Ending Violence Against Women and Teen Dating Violence: A forum for Primary Prevention Advocates” held in Sacramento on July 13-14, 2010.  This fifth annual gathering focused on teen dating violence.

I gave a workshop on “Emerging Themes in Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence Prevention”, and CALCASA’s Chad Sniffen co-facilitated a panel titled “Building Intergenerational Partnerships for Preventing Teen Dating Violence.”

Other speakers included an opening keynote by Jackson Katz calling for greater engagement of men to address men’s violence against women; a session by Elizabeth Reed on “Losing the Gender in Gender-Based Violence” and Clea McNeely, author of The Teen Years Explained; A Guide to Healthy Adolescent Development discussing adolescent development.

CALCASA’s PreventConnect Project recorded many of sessions and will soon release them as podcasts.

I want to start a project for primary Prevention of Violence against women in my country as the incident of VAW is alarminglingly high and is rising in Pakistan. There are no laws for prevention of VAW despite the fact that Pakistanis signatory of CEDAW.
I want to initiate a multidimensional project involving the government, law and policy makers, law enforcing agencies as well as media to focus on making laws on one hand and establishing institutions such as rescue 911 to respond to distress calls in order to save the women from becoming victims of domestic violence, intimate partner Sexual abuse, acid burn victims or any other form of violence.
please help me develop this project in the light of all your experience and knowledge of best practices.
I am a lone ranger as very few in our country are aware of the gravity of the situation and its long term cost to the nation in every possible way.
