CALCASA Media Advocacy Guide

CALCASA is pleased to release our Media Advocacy Guide! Our goal is to share how we use media advocacy. For some of you, this will be a nice introduction to working with the media. For others, you may find that this is a simple text for sharing the activities you’re already doing in your agency with new staff, leadership or allies.

The guide includes some lessons we’ve learned and some nice tips for working with the media. We hope you’ll find it useful and we also want to hear what you think. Some members have already provided valuable feedback while we were writing the guide and we thank you for the support!

“We must do everything in our power to provide law enforcement with the resources necessary to protect the public,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “Public safety is a top priority and with these bills, we will be able to better monitor and prosecute sex offenders and sexually violent predators to the fullest extent of the law – making our streets safer from these dangerous predators.”

Rape: It’s a war crime

Despite changes in international law and declarations by tribunals and the U.N., rampant sexual violence goes unpunished around the globe.

I've been working for non-profits as a volunteer or paid staff member for the last 10 years. The primary focus of my work in the non-profit field has been educating the public about sexual assault. I have worked across a range of advocacy-related positions — from volunteering in direct services to coordinating media and legislation at the CALCASA.
